Quill : A Beautiful Canvas To Step Into

Unlike most games I have played, Quill serves as a simulation game with the ability to paint precise strokes in the virtual space. Using the Oculus Rift Touch controllers, I had the ability to produce art with a Photoshop UI, pressing buttons with vibrating haptic feedback and selecting various colors and layers to compose a piece each time.
In a way, I felt joy in such a peaceful space. Games that provide a sense of peace after completing the objective by using the UI menu generated to complete each task serves like game mechanics. How could one expect to accomplish such a work of art or even produce animations in an infinite canvas? I found myself creating spaceships, where I drew out the outlines of a cockpit from the inside, and found myself through a rollercoaster of motion as I painted the strokes. In order to zoom in on certain parts of the sculpture created, I either expanded or pulled my virtual position in the space like pulling a piece of rope to get to one place to another. It was magnificent and fast-paced. One after another, each paint stroke, big and small, went into the sculpture constructed like beams of a steel tower or wisps of window curtains. Even the words being written was part of the experience when I was trying to protray a story, one about a little robot lost in world traveling through their creator's memories to understand the reason behind their name.
I loved it. Creating these scenes for the viewer to literally jump inside and be immersed in the story, finding understanding through the pieces of art or words or little fluttering details of my creativity. Quill was a playground for creativity. I loved every second of it.

(as a random note, today's my birthday :D )
